Pet & Equestrian Portraits

My aim with every pet and equestrian portrait is not only to capture accurate likeness, but also to reflect the spirit, character, and presence of the animal. Whether it’s the gentle expression of a beloved pet or the strength and grace of a horse, a painted portrait preserves personality and emotion in a way a photograph alone cannot. I work exclusively from photographs, taking time to study expression, posture, and movement. While one main reference image is usually sufficient, additional photographs are always welcome and help me better understand the animal’s unique traits, ensuring the final artwork feels both personal and full of life.

Where to start?

Commissioning a Pet or Equestrian Portrait

When commissioning a pet or equestrian portrait, having a general idea of the final result is very helpful. This may include the preferred size, medium, and composition — whether a close-up head study, head-and-shoulders portrait, or a full-body painting. I offer a range of sizes and formats and can tailor each commission to suit individual preferences or budget considerations. All portraits are created from high-quality photographs provided by the client, allowing the process to be relaxed, flexible, and stress-free for both owner and animal. I’m always happy to advise on image selection if needed.

What are the costs involved?

The price of a commissioned pet or equestrian portrait depends on size, complexity, materials, and the number of animals included. Each portrait is unique, so please get in touch with your ideas for a personalised quote. As a guide, a small A4 head-and-shoulders acrylic pet portrait from a high-quality photograph starts at £210, with prices increasing for larger or more detailed works. Equestrian portraits and multi-animal compositions are priced according to scale and detail. I’m always open to discussing options and accommodating a range of budgets where possible.

What Animals Do You Paint?

I paint a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and other beloved pets. If you’re unsure whether your animal is suitable for a portrait, feel free to get in touch and we can discuss your idea.

How Are Pet and Equestrian Portraits Created?

Portraits can be created using a variety of mediums, including watercolour, acrylics, black or coloured pencils, and digital painting. Each medium offers a different feel and finish, and I’m always happy to help you choose the best option for your portrait. All artwork is created from high-quality photographs, ensuring a calm and stress-free process for both you and your animal.

Do You Work from Photographs Only?

Yes. All pet and equestrian portraits are created exclusively from photographs. One strong reference image is usually enough, though additional photos are always welcome and can help capture expressions, markings, and movement more accurately.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Ulianka
